Responsibilities

The SIS group is currently looking for a college intern to join its R&D design team. This is an mechanical or optical engineering role having exposure to mechanical or opto-mech designs using wide range of technologies from optics fabrication, product assembly tooling, precision measurement, robots, process control, etc. Specific assignment for this internship will include precision assembly tool development for optical interferometer assembly, optics thin-film coating, ultra-clean materials cleaning and critical optics surface inspection and performance specifications. 


The selected intern will be part of our R&D team, closely working with our in-house manufacturing partners to introduce new interferometer designs and technologies to Keysight advanced optics and interferometer production. This role will also have opportunities to learn from optics fabrication techniques, transforming start-of-art engineering designs to create very valuable and manufacturable tools, 3D tooling modeling and design documentation to successfully deliver our products to customers. Joining this internship, you will be able to develop your mechanical design skillsets from our advanced optical interferometer systems which include assemblies of lasers, optics, polarizing thin film coating, precision fiber optics, and electronics. 

 

Responsibilities:

  • As a Mechanical or Opto-mech Engineer in our R&D System Design Group, you will be involved with
  • Technology ideas and production designs for precision optical interferometer and position sensing products
  • Side-by-side work with experienced design engineers to explore new technologies around optics metrology, measurement setup, wavefront characterization, hands-on build of interferometers
  • Performance & design tolerance analysis using simulation of optical wave propagation, ray tracing or precision mechanical simulation tools
  • Interacting with R&D, Program Mgmt., Supply-Chain, internal Manufacturing teams to develop assembly tools, manufacturing processes, assembly flow to effective launch of new products
  • Collecting data, running data analytics, creating design reports or documentation of various assembly processes, tooling BOMs or design improvements.

This position will be working onsite in our Santa Clara, CA office; candidates must be willing to relocate to Santa Clara for the duration of the internship.

Qualifications

  • 3rd or 4th year college students in major(s) of Mechanical Engineering, Optics Engineering, Applied Physics are all welcome. Masters or PHD students are also welcome
  • Any experience from mechanical design or project using CAD or 3D design tools is strongly preferred
  • Project experience from optical materials characterization and/or simulation using Zemax is a plus Excellent communication skills
  • Willing to work in cross-functional teams and possess collaborative mindset with individual contribution
  • Ability to operate in fast-paced learning, dynamic and ambiguous work environment

Keysight Internship Program Requirements

Candidates who wish to be considered must be currently enrolled in a accredited college/university as of September 2024. Applicants who have graduated before September 2024 will not be considered unless they are starting a MS or PHD program after graduating.

California Pay Range: $31.26 $40.87 per hour

Based on experience, education and skills, most offers will be between the minimum and the midpoint of the Salary Range listed above.

 

Note: For other locations, pay ranges will vary by region.
